The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced T20I squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games 2026. The selection committee rewarded several players for their stellar performance in the recent Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026).

While there were many players who earned a well-deserved selection in the Indian team, a few missed out on getting picked despite putting up a good show in recent times. Here are five such players who, unfortunately, missed out on selection despite showing a lot of promise:

1. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has been removed from Indian T20I captaincy despite guiding the side to a World Cup triumph earlier this year. The former skipper has not only been removed from leadership but has lost his place in the team altogether. Given his clean record as captain, where he didn’t lose a single series, Suryakumar will feel hard done by the selectors’ harsh call.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The right-arm seamer had a brilliant Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), where he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of the season with 28 scalps from 16 innings. It was his best-ever performance in a single IPL season, but despite that, he failed to impress the selectors, who didn’t pick him in the squad.

3. Kuldeep Yadav

The left-arm wrist spinner was a part of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 winning squad, where he played just one match and took one wicket in three overs. Kuldeep Yadav played a key role in India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph, taking 17 wickets from seven innings.

However, since then, he has only got a handful of opportunities and has taken nine wickets from six innings. A poor IPL 2026 further added to his woes, and he was dropped from the team. Given his skill level and the limited opportunities in recent times, many were left baffled with the selectors' call.

4. Rinku Singh

After rising to the limelight in IPL 2023, Rinku Singh had also become a proven finisher in the Indian team. However, he failed to find a regular place in the side in 2025 as he didn't fit in the playing combination, featuring in just five matches. The southpaw was given a longer run in the ongoing year, but failed to play many impactful innings. He also had a poor start to IPL 2026, but made amends in the latter half to finish with 295 runs from 11 innings at an average of 59. Rinku’s omission also came as a surprise to many, given his proven potential at the international level.

5. Rajat Patidar

Patidar etched his name in the history books, becoming just the second captain to lead his team to a successful title defence in IPL history, as he guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their second title triumph. He also led from the front throughout the season, scoring 501 runs from 14 innings at an average of 41.75 and a strike rate of 192.69. Following another successful season, Patidar had brought himself into contention for a T20I call-up. However, the selectors once again ignored his prolific show, leaving his fans disappointed.
