Team India's emerging pacer Harshit Rana has undergone a successful surgery and will soon begin his rehabilitation to return to the field. Rana shared an image of himself lying on a hospital bed on Monday to confirm that he was desperate to get back on the field.

Rana, who has claimed nine wickets in as many T20Is, was primed to make an appearance in India's starting XI, but he injured his right knee during the warm-up game against South Africa on February 4, which put an end to his T20 World Cup participation.

India have drafted Mohammed Siraj into their World Cup squad as a replacement for Rana after the approval of the ICC Event Technical Committee.

India avoid disastrous beginning to title defence

Siraj claimed a three-wicket haul in India's campaign opener against the USA as he accounted for Andries Gous, Saiteja Mukkamalla, and Shubham Ranjane, conceding 29 runs at an economy rate of 7.25 per over.

Team India were fortunate to survive a major scare as they suffered a collapse after being put into bat by the USA captain Monank Patel, but a heroic 84-run knock by skipper Suryakumar Yadav averted a disaster.

Suryakumar continued from where he left off against the Kiwis in a five-match T20I bilateral series and kept his composure while wickets kept tumbling at the other end. He weathered the storm initially and launched an onslaught towards the fag end of the innings to catapult India to a defendable total of 161.

India’s updated squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel (VC), Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj
