Harry Brook harbours desires of IPL return

England's white-ball captain Harry Brook has specified that while playing for England remains his priority at the moment, he would like to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) sometime in the future.

Brook is currently serving a two-year IPL ban and can only register for the 2028 auction. The right-handed batter pulled out of the cash-rich league before the start of the 2025 season, leaving Delhi Capitals in the lurch after they had splurged INR 6.25 crore (£590,000) at the IPL mega auction in November 2024.

"Who knows what the future holds, but yeah, and like I said, I'm completely focussed on playing as much cricket as I possibly can for England, and that is my one and only priority at the moment," Brook told Cricinfo in an interview.

When asked if he harboured a desire to return to the IPL, Brook said: "Yeah, definitely. The IPL is a great competition, and it's a great experience, and you go over there, you leave a better player. It's a very good competition to be a part of, and it's something that I'll definitely think about in the future."

Brook is currently plying his trade for Sunrisers Leeds in the men's Hundred. Leeds have secured their berth in the Eliminator against Manchester Super Giants, which will be played on Friday, August 14.

England's white-ball skipper feels the Hundred has set a very high performance standard and serves as an ideal platform for players looking to make a name for themselves.

"The Hundred has the highest standard for sure in English domestic cricket. You've got four overseas players - they're all international talents. You've got all the best players in the competition. They're all pushing for certain spots and trying to get different franchise gigs, and it's a good opportunity for a lot of players to push their case forward," he added.
