Manav Suthar and Washington Sundar combined to strangle Afghanistan’s batting on day three of the one‑off Test, helping India seal their biggest win in Test cricket by an innings and 300 runs.
Suthar produced a dream spell, registering the third‑best figures by an Indian in an innings on Test debut. Narendra Hirwani holds the record for the best figures in an innings on Test debut for India. Afghanistan’s second innings struggles
Facing a daunting deficit of 412 runs, Afghanistan’s batters had little experience to draw upon. The openers, Sediqullah Atal and Abdul Malik, began cautiously and added 42 for the first wicket. Just as they looked settled, Mohammed Siraj struck by trapping Malik lbw.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz walked in at No. 3 and counter‑attacked to ease the pressure, but his enterprising knock of 24 off 24 balls, featuring three fours and a six, was cut short by Kuldeep Yadav. From there, Afghanistan’s innings unravelled.
Sundar and Kuldeep seal the win
Washington Sundar bowled with guile and control, finishing with 4/36 in the second innings. He generated turn and bounce, unsettling the Afghan batters. His most significant wicket was Atal, who top‑scored for the visitors in the 2nd innings with 42 off 80 balls and looked the only composed batter in the lineup.
