India reclaim No. 1 spot in T20I rankings after consecutive wins over Zimbabwe

India have regained the top spot in the ICC T20I team rankings, after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series against Zimbabwe. The Men in Blue had slipped to the second position in the rankings, after suffering back-to-back series losses in Ireland and England.
However, the double T20 World Champions are back to the summit in the latest rankings update released by the ICC. The Shreyas Iyer-led side has returned to the top with 268 ratings to its name.
They overtake England by a really small margin, who’re now fallen to the second spot with just a difference of decimal points separating them and India. After suffering crushing series losses in Ireland, where India conceded their maiden defeat, losing 0-2, and in England, where they went down 0-4, the Men in Blue were in tatters under the leadership of their new captain Shreyas Iyer.
However, they have made a remarkable comeback, winning the first T20I against Zimbabwe by seven wickets, followed by a massive 90-run victory in the second match.
In the series opener at Harare Sports Club, Harare, after opting to bowl first, India first restricted Zimbabwe to a low total of 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Prince Yadav (2/19) and Mayank Yadav (2/18) were relentless with their pace, not allowing thei Zimbabwe battters to settle down.
Sooryavanshi scripts history in Zimbabwe
In reply, India comfortably chased down the target in just 13.2 overs, riding on a historic fifty from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (50 off 19), who became the youngest ever half-centurion in international cricket at the age of 15 years and 118 days.
In the second match, India posted a monumental score of 219/5 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on stellar knocks from Ishan Kishan (81 off 44) and Tilak Varma (60* off 29). In reply, Zimbabwe were bundled out for just 129 in 17.5 overs to hand India a massive 90-run victory.
The two teams will again lock horns in the third and final T20I on Sunday, July 26 at the same venue.
