India have suffered a massive jolt to their dream of clinching the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 as their emerging spin-bowling allrounder Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. Patil has suffered an ankle ligament injury and will have to spend weeks on the sidelines to recover fully.
India have brought the 24-year-old leg-break bowler Prema Rawat as Patil's injury replacement. This is Rawat's maiden call-up to the national side. She played a pivotal role in India's triumph at the Women's Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament earlier this year.

Rawat claimed eight wickets in five games at an excellent economy rate of 4.27 runs per over and registered best bowling figures of 3/12. Rawat plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Women's Premier League (WPL).
For the uninitiated, Patil sustained the injury while chasing the ball in the opening over of her spell against Netherlands on June 17. She twisted her ankle badly and was seen grimacing in pain before being stretchered off the field.
This is not the first time that Patil has suffered a major injury in her career. She damaged a finger in July 2024, which ruled her out of contention for the T20 World Cup that year. The 23-year-old had shin splints in both of her legs and suffered a stress reaction in her wrist, which put her on the sidelines for almost a year.
Patil returned to the field of play in the Women's CPL 2025. She was also a member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad that clinched the Women's Premier League title this year, beating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final by six wickets.
