India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has addressed the reports circulating in the media around Virat Kohli's participation in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at home.

Ten Doeschate said that the team management and the selectors still had a few days to analyse and assess everyone's fitness before making a decisive judgement. Other than Virat, there were also a few question marks on the fitness of Rohit Sharma. Rohit, whose participation in the ODI series against Afghanistan was subject to fitness clearance, hurt his hamstring during the course of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"Official communication will come on that. You know, it’s obviously big news when it’s someone like Virat or Rohit, but the same protocols will be in place where we’ll assess the fitness of those guys, and we’ve got a few days now to decide whether they are fit enough to play and be part of the squad, and make adjustments accordingly. But I’m sure some official communication will come through as soon as the medical team has confirmed," said Doeschate in the pre-match presser ahead of India's one-off Test against Afghanistan while addressing the questions on Rohit and Virat's participation in the upcoming three-match ODI series at home.

Rohit's injury came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a home game on April 12. He then missed five games on the bounce before making a return to Mumbai Indians' playing XI on May 4 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit was also a part of Mumbai Indians' final game of the campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Meanwhile, all the reports doing the rounds across social media platforms suggest that Virat experienced discomfort in the summit clash of the IPL against Gujarat Titans. The first ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (HPCA) in Dharamshala on June 13.
