South Africa and Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is stable after facing a serious head injury while fielding during the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) Match 35 between DC and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Ngidi injured himself while running back to take a catch at mid off in the third over of the second innings after Priyansh Arya miscued a shot against Axar Patel.

However, he failed to reach the ball and fell awkwardly on his head, which hit the turf hard and twisted his neck. The physio came running in to attend the DC pacer, who looked in serious trouble as even the Doctor came to examine him. With Ngidi not being able to move, a stretcher was brought in the middle to carry him, and even the ambulance had to be brought on the field to quickly rush him to hospital.

Everyone in the stadium had a worried look on their faces as all the players and support staff came to Ngidi’s help. Much to everyone’s relief, the speedster is now stable and will be discharged from the hospital shortly. Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, Venugopal Rao, shared an update on Ngidi in the post-match press conference, revealing that the injury is not severe.

“I think it is not serious. He is still in the hospital. We will update, but nothing serious,” said Rao in the post-match press conference.

PBKS beat Delhi Capitals

Meanwhile, Ngidi's bowling was missed by DC during the game as PBKS comfortably chased down the record target of 266. Batting first, Delhi posted a humongous score of 264/2 in their allotted 20 overs with KL Rahul (152* off 67) scoring a record-breaking ton.

In reply, PBKS chased down the target in 18.5 overs with Prabhsimran Singh (76 off 26) and captain Shreyas Iyer (71* off 36) leading the run chase. As a result, Punjab pulled off the highest successful chase not only in IPL but in T20 cricket to etch their name in the record books.
