The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs Gujarat Titans (GT) IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad could face interruptions, as the local meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for parts of the city on Sunday, May 31.
Ahmedabad has been braving a heatwave for weeks, with temperatures soaring into the early 40s (°C). Now, forecasts suggest spells of rain in and around the city on May 31 and June 1, raising concerns about the weather playing spoilsport.
What if there’s no play possible on May 31?
The BCCI has kept a reserve day in place for the final. If rain washes out play on Sunday, the teams will return on Monday, June 1, to battle for the silverware. Match officials, however, will make every effort to achieve a result on the scheduled day itself, provided interruptions are not prolonged.
What if the reserve day also gets washed out?
The chances of showers in Ahmedabad on Monday are even higher compared to Sunday, which makes the reserve day scenario a genuine concern. Should the downpour persist, and no play be possible on June 1 either, the defending champions RCB, will be declared winners of IPL 2026.
This is because RCB finished at the top of the points table after the league stage, edging out GT on net run rate. While both sides ended with 18 points, RCB’s NRR of 0.783 was marginally superior to GT’s 0.695, securing them the No. 1 spot and, in such a scenario, the title by default.
