The quest for greatness is about to begin as the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) is all set to get underway on March 28. In the 19-year long history of the tournament, several teams have made a mark for themselves with their stellar performances and emerged victorious in the most fiercely competitive T20 league of the world.
Every year, the IPL is hosted in the home and away format, i.e. teams get to play a designated number of matches at their home venue and travel to other places for the rest of the fixtures. The key to winning the IPL in most cases is having a phenomenal home record and keeping a decent away record to ensure one has enough points on the table at the end of the league stage to qualify ahead.

In the rich history of the IPL, there have been several teams that have made their home turf a fortress, giving a tough time to all the travelling teams. Here’s a ranking of all ten IPL teams on the basis of their home record:
1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
The joint-most successful franchise of the tournament takes the top spot, having made the MA Chidambaram Stadium an impregnable fortress for a number of years. Much of CSK’s success is due to their remarkable home record, where they have won 72 out of 114 matches, having a winning percentage of 63.15.
2. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Just four years into the IPL, and Gujarat are already being counted among the top sides of the tournament. GT went on to win an IPL title in their debut season in 2022 and finished as the runners-up in 2023. They again made it to the playoffs in 2025, but were knocked in the Eliminator. In their short history, Gujarat have established themselves as one of the strongest teams at home, having won 19 out of 32 matches, with a win percentage of 59.37%.
3. Mumbai Indians (MI)
The other most successful team of the IPL takes the third spot, having enjoyed massive success at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium, in their rich history. MI’s fortunes turned in 2013, when Rohit Sharma was handed over the leadership duties and led them to five titles under his captaincy. Mumbai are also counted amongst the most dominating teams at home, having won 70 out of 119 matches, with a win percentage of 58.82%.
4. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
The first-ever champions of the IPL take the fourth spot, having had a remarkable record at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. While Rajasthan may have failed to replicate their success from 2008, they boast the second-best home record among all ten teams. RR have won 58 out of their 99 home matches, boasting a win percentage of 58.58%.
5. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
The second most successful team in history takes the fifth spot, having registered several memorable victories at their home ground, Eden Gardens. KKR have the second most IPL titles to their name (3), having won the tournament in 2012, 2014 and 2024. They also boast a great home record with 63 wins from 113 matches, having a win percentage of 55.75%.
6. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Sunrisers Hyderabad have been one of the most consistent teams in IPL since their debut in 2013. They won their maiden title in 2016 and finished as runner ups of 2018 and 2024 editions. SRH have enjoyed much of their success due to a remarkable home record. They’ve won 41 out of 77 matches played at their home, having a win percentage of 53.24%.
7. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
The defending champions of the upcoming season take the seventh spot, having played the majority of their cricket at the venue known as bowler’s graveyard, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB have historically struggled to perform consistently on their home turf, which was the primary reason behind their long title drought. They’ve won 52 out of 106 matches and have a win percentage of 49.05%.
8. Delhi Capitals (DC)
After 18 seasons of the IPL, Delhi Capitals are still searching for their maiden title victory. After a promising start in the first two seasons, Delhi failed to maintain consistency before finding their feet again in 2019. However, despite playing their best cricket in 2020, they lost in the final against Mumbai Indians. Their poor home record is one of the reasons behind their empty trophy cabinet as Delhi have won 53 out of 111 home games with a win percentage of 47.74%.
9. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Despite playing just four IPL seasons so far, Lucknow have the second-worst home record in the tournament’s history. LSG showed great promise in their first two seasons as they made it to the playoffs but failed to emulate their success in the last two editions. A deteriorating home record has been one of the reasons behind LSG’s downfall, who have won 13 out of 30 matches, having a win percentage of 43.33%.
10. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
In the 18-year long history of the IPL, Punjab only had a handful of seasons, where they played to their potential and made an impact. They’ve made it to two finals so far in 2014 and 2025, respectively, but failed to get their hands on the trophy. Punjab’s dismal home show hasn’t allowed them to be counted amongst the best IPL teams, as they’ve won 48 out of 112 matches at home with a win percentage of 42.85%.
