Ireland stunned West Indies with a six-wicket win in Match 27 of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday, June 27 at County Ground, Bristol. After being put in to bat first, West Indies were restricted to 128/7 in their 20 overs with Chinelle Henry (27* off 21) top-scoring for her side. For Ireland, Cara Murray and Aimee Maguire (2/22) scalped two wickets each.
In reply, Ireland chased down the target in 18.1 overs with Orla Prendergast playing a magnificent innings, while Amy Hunter (28 off 32) also made a valuable contribution. As a result, Ireland registered their maiden win in T20 World Cup history after having lost 21 matches consecutively since the 2014 edition of the tournament.
It was also the second successive victory for Ireland over West Indies in T20Is. Ireland women's victory came just a day after their men's team beat world champions India for the first time in T20Is in Belfast.
Courtesy of their win, they ended their campaign on a high but finished last (sixth) in the Group B points table with two points.
On the other hand, following their loss, West Indies don't have their fate in their own hands for semi-final qualification. They're now dependent on New Zealand's loss in their last fixture against England to progress ahead in the tournament.

Player of the Match
Orla Prendergast was adjudged Player of the Match for her stellar half-century. She scored a magnificent 63 off 44 balls, laced with eight fours and two sixes. Earlier, she also scalped one wicket with the ball, registering figures of 1/29 in four overs.
Turning Point
Prendergast walked in to bat with Ireland on 26/1 after 4.1 overs and stitched a crucial 62-run stand off 53 balls for the second wicket, alongside Amy Hunter, to put Ireland in the driver's seat. Courtesy of their partnership, the required run rate was brought down to around five runs per over, easing the pressure on the remaining batters.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Gaby Lewis (Ireland women):
I'm absolutely delighted. So proud of the girls. Been a tough tournament. Some close losses and some heavy losses. Have to dust it off in a tournament like this. I knew it was reachable with the batting lineup we have.
Losing Captain, Hayley Mathews (West Indies women):
Probably had a decent powerplay but were not able to keep the runs flowing. Probably were a bit timid. Then with the ball the execution we went wrong for sure. It was a wicket where it was sitting up quite a bit and we got hit off the back foot a lot. Still figuring it out I guess (batting not firing). Some of it is down to me as well - not in the best form. Deandra also not in the best shape. Fingers crossed for what's coming up. If we do get to the semis from here, it's going to be a case of it's meant to be. The pain and anxiety we feel right now, will have to channelise it. They bowled pretty slow which was difficult on that wicket. Orla controlled the game with the bat. Played a great innings to control the game. Chinelle hopefully she'll be good for the semis. She's managing her injuries all the time.
