Jemimah Rodrigues has been appointed as the new captain of Delhi Capitals ahead of the fourth season of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Delhi Capitals made the announcement on Tuesday, December 23, across their social media platforms.
Notably, she was one of the five players retained by the franchise before the WPL auction. India opener Shafali Verma, Australia's star allrounder Annabel Sutherland, South Africa's legendary allrounder Marizanne Kapp, and India's U19 World Cup 2025-winning captain Niki Prasad were the four other players.

Having played three consecutive finals in the leadership of Meg Lanning, Capitals have been the most consistent side in the WPL. However, she wasn't retained by Capitals and had to register for the 2026 auction, where she was snaffled by UP Warriorz.
Therefore, Rodrigues has big shoes to fill and would like the team to go one better in the upcoming season. She was the vice-captain last year and was the frontrunner to take up captaincy after Capitals' co-owner Parth Jindal had confirmed at the auction that they were going to have an Indian as captain in the upcoming season.
"I think we are very clear that we would like to have an Indian as the captain," Jindal had mentioned at the auction, responding to a query on whether Capitals were looking to appoint Laura Wolvaardt as their captain. "We already have our minds made up, but let's see what happens. Laura will add a lot of leadership into the dressing room, but we are clear that we want to go with an Indian captain."
Delhi will open their campaign against the defending champions Mumbai Indians, on Saturday, January 10, at Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
