Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was taken to a hospital for treatment after being struck on the side of his helmet during the second ODI against Australia at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on June 11.

The incident occurred on the fourth delivery of the 34th over of Bangladesh’s innings. Mehidy was beaten while attempting a pull shot off Nathan Ellis, and the ball thudded into the side of his helmet. He jogged a single as the ball rolled to third, but his condition quickly worsened.

Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan rushed to the field to Mehidy's aid.

Mehidy vomited and crouched down, prompting calls for further medical assistance. A stretcher was brought out, and the Australian team doctor also joined to assess the situation.

After a few tense moments, Mehidy managed to get back on his feet. He spoke briefly with the medical staff and, despite the scare, chose to continue his innings. The winning shot, fittingly, came from his willow as he hooked a bumper from Riley Meredith for a six over fine leg, sealing Bangladesh’s first‑ever ODI series victory over Australia.

"Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a concussion during the match today," Bayjedul Islam Khan was quoted as saying after the game by ESPNcricinfo. "He continued to play after being assessed in the middle. We have sent him to the hospital to assess the rest of his signs and for general observation. He will be there for the next 24 hours."

Taskin Ahmed praises Mehidy’s courage

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed lauded Mehidy’s bravery. He noted that Mehidy likely felt a new batter entering at that stage could have made mistakes, potentially swinging the game back in Australia’s favour. Taskin praised his captain for standing firm and guiding the team to a historic triumph.

"It was incredible of Miraz to bat in that condition," said Taskin. "I think he took a quick decision that if he walks off, the new batter could be prone to making a mistake in that pressure situation."
