Michael Hussey and Eric Simmons depart as CSK's coaching overhaul continues

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have parted ways with batting coach Michael Hussey and bowling coach Eric Simons ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. The franchise's coaching setup continues to undergo significant changes following the appointment of Zaheer Khan as head coach for the 2027 season.

CSK confirmed the departures of Hussey and Simons through a statement released on Monday (October 26).

"An integral part of the Chennai Super Kings coaching setup since 2018, Eric Simons has played an important role in shaping our bowling unit and contributing to the team's success over the years. We extend our sincere gratitude for your dedicated service and contributions.

"Thank you, Eric Simons. Wishing you the very best in your future endeavours," the statement read.

In a separate statement for Hussey, CSK said: "From the very first season in 2008, you have been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings family.

"Your journey in Yellow has been defined not only by the runs you scored and the players you mentored, but also by the dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment you brought to this franchise over the years. Your place in our history will forever remain special, Hussmeister. Once a Super King, always a Super King."

Gareth Batty joins CSK as assistant coach

Chennai Super Kings have roped in former England spinner Gareth Batty as the assistant coach for the 2027 IPL season. Batty is leaving his role as head coach of Surrey to join his former Worcestershire teammate Zaheer Khan in CSK's coaching group.

Under Batty's regime, Surrey clinched three consecutive County Championship titles between 2022 and 2024. Batty was also a part of the Hundred franchise, Oval Invincibles, during their title-winning campaign in 2025. He, however, switched roles and worked for Mumbai Indians' affiliated MI London in the 2026 edition of the Hundred.
