Mitchell Starc wants the International Cricket Council (ICC) to pay for the DRS technology and use one provider for uniformity across all formats to iron out inconsistencies in decision-making, such as the ones that have marred the ongoing Ashes.

Starc's statement comes on the heels of the controversy involving Real Time Snicko (RTS) during the Adelaide Test. BBG Sports, the suppliers of Snicko, admitted that Australia's wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey had a reprieve during the course of his century at the Adelaide Oval.

Starc was miffed at Snicko and called for it "to be sacked" after Jamie Smith was ruled not out as the two on-field umpires, Ahsan Raza and Nitin Menon, reviewed a potential catch at first slip by Usman Khawaja off Pat Cummins' bowling.

"I'm sure it's frustrating for everyone, viewers, officials, broadcasters no doubt," Starc was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. "One thing I will say ... I'm only going to speak for myself here, the officials use it, right? So why doesn't the ICC pay for it? And why is it not just one [provider] across the board? Why don't we use the same technology in all different series that's going to perhaps create less confusion, less frustration? So that's where I'll leave that."

Notably, RTS and UltraEdge are the two sound-based edge detection technology suppliers approved by the ICC. RTS is only used in Australia, whereas the rest of the world uses UltraEdge.
