Pakistan's Super Eights stage exit at the T20 World Cup 2026 has led to former umpire Aleem Dar resigning from his position as a member of the men's national selection committee. The board has added former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed to the panel instead, who join former Test players Asad Shafiq and Aaqib Javed, thus making it a four-member committee now.
Misbah has held positions as a selector and coach within the national team setup before and this will be his second stint. Sarfaraz, on the other hand, has served as the team manager and mentor of the Under-19 team which won the Asia Cup recently in December 2025.

Both the new members bring in a wealth of experience with them, including notable captaincy achievements. Misbah led the Test team in 56 Tests between 2010 and 2017, winning 26 of those while Sarfaraz captained the ODI side in 50 matches with 28 wins to his name. The most celebrated achievement of the 38-year-old includes the Champions Trophy 2017 triumph in which the team beat India by 180 runs at The Oval in the final.
Pakistan exit T20 WC at Super Eights stage
It is evident that the selection committee changes are the outcome of the team's T20 World Cup campaign. Pakistan were based out of Sri Lanka for all their matches and won three out of their four group-stage outings against the Netherlands, USA, and Namibia. Notably, the team almost lost their first match against the Men in Orange, but Faheem Ashraf saved the day for the Men in Green.
Their only defeat (by 61 runs) came against India on a sluggish surface at the R. Premadasa Stadium, and it was notable for the manner in which the team lost. Pakistan were relatively poor in the Super Eights, losing to England and barely winning against Sri Lanka when they needed to find a victory by a substantial margin. Moreover, their first game of the second stage against New Zealand was washed out which did not help their cause either.
The team's next assignment is an away three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, starting from March 11.
