Mitch Owen has earned an opportunity to make a strong case for himself ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup as he has been selected in the 17-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan.

Owen is one of the many players who are on the brink of selection and has been left out of Australia's provisional squad for the signature ICC event. He has scored 146 in nine innings at a strike rate of 200 while playing for Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing season.

The selectors have also added Mahli Beardman and Jack Edwards to the squad, and they can potentially make their international debuts. Edwards has claimed 15 scalps in 10 games at an economy rate of 8.08 for the Sydney Sixers, whereas Beardman has snared eight wickets in nine games at 8.34 runs per over.

Tim David, who is still recuperating from a hamstring injury, has not been named in the squad. David is among five of Australia's T20 World Cup provisional squad members who won't be touring Pakistan. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are also undergoing their rehab, whereas Glenn Maxwell and Nathan Ellis are the other two who won't be travelling to Pakistan.
