The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reassigned Mohammad Ashraful from his role as the men's team's batting coach. In his place, BCB's High Performance coach Mohammad Salahuddin will take over the role on an interim basis.

Ashraful took over the role in November, 2025 and would be moved to a new role within the board, according to a BCB media release. On the other hand, Salahuddin will serve in the role until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Notably, Salahuddin previously also served as assistant coach and was in charge of the batting unit before Ashraful.

Mohammad Ashraful was part of one of the greatest moments in Bangladesh's cricketing history as he slammed a match-winning century against Australia during an ODI in Cardiff, 2005.

At just 20 years old, he played a magnificent innings of 100 (101) and guided the team to their first-ever victory over the World Champions.

Over the course of his career, he played 177 ODIs, scoring 3,468 runs  and became Bangladesh’s fifth-highest run-scorer in the format. He also featured in 61 Tests, and holds the record of being the youngest player to score a Test century at the age of 17 years and 61 days against Sri Lanka in 2001.

He also represented the country in 23 T20Is and scored 450 runs. Ashraful remained active in domestic cricket until 2024.

Bangladesh to face West Indies in Test series

However, his career was also marked by controversy. In 2013, he was handed a lengthy ban from all Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)-related cricket activities following his involvement in a match-fixing scandal in the Bangladesh Premier League. Three years later, he returned to the fold and subsequently ventured into coaching.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will next take on West Indies in a two-match Test series beginning on October 28. They were recently knocked out of the UAE tri-series after failing to win both of their fixtures.
