Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in history books during the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday, May 27, at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. The 15-year-old shattered the record for most sixes in a single season of IPL, surpassing Chris Gayle’s record of 59 sixes from the 2012 season.
Sooryavanshi achieved the feat by launching Sakib Hussain for a maximum over deep extra cover during the fourth over of the innings. He also brought up his half-century off just 16 balls on the very next delivery by depositing Hussain again over deep square leg. As a result, Sooryavanshi also registered the joint-fastest fifty in IPL playoffs history, levelling Suresh Raina’s feat from 2014.

During his innings, the teenage batting sensation was on a record-breaking spree as he also registered the most runs by an uncapped batter in a single IPL season. He surpassed his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal’s feat from the 2023 season, when he scored 625 runs from 14 innings.
However, Sooryavanshi unfortunately missed out on scoring the fastest IPL hundred, getting dismissed for 97 (29) by Praful Hinge.
