Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has once again left the internet swooning with his quip when asked about his Indian Premier League (IPL) retirement. Dhoni was again quizzed about his IPL retirement by Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan during CSK’s Roar 26 event at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 22.

However, the legendary wicketkeeper batter once again left the crowd amazed with his answer, saying that he can try to play till he turns 60. Dhoni’s answer was welcomed by the capacity crowd present at the MA Chidambaram stadium, who went berserk listening to their Thala’s reply.

“In one of the seasons, they asked you, ‘Are you going to retire?’ But you said, ‘Definitely not’. We expect the same answer every year. You can play till 60 also, sir,” said Sivakarthikeyan in a video shared by CSK on their social media handles.

“It’s very difficult,” replied Dhoni.

“With your fitness, it’s easy, I think sir,” said Sivakarthikeyan.

“It’s all the way down, not all the way up. I can try,” quipped Dhoni.

Dhoni has been a part of CSK since the first season of IPL in 2008, having represented them in 272 matches. The 44-year-old is the second-highest run scorer for his franchise, having scored 5314 runs at an average of 38.23 and a strike rate of 139.29 with 23 half-centuries to his name.

The wicketkeeper batter has led his team to the joint-most five IPL and two Champions League T20 titles as well. Ever since Dhoni retired from his international career in 2019, the speculations around his IPL retirement have also been rife.

Are CSK preparing for Dhoni's retirement?

However, the legendary captain has guided his team to two IPL titles since then in 2021 and 2023. Meanwhile, ahead of IPL 2026, CSK have invested in young talents, buying the likes of Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma.

The five-time champions also brought in Sanju Samson through a player trade with the Rajasthan Royals. With CSK building a team for the future, Dhoni’s retirement rumours are again on the rise ahead of the upcoming season. It remains to be seen if Dhoni finally brings curtains on his legendary career at the end of the upcoming edition of the tournament.
