Muhammad Shahzad: All you need to know about Pakistan's fastest centurion in first-class cricket

There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan's domestic cricket circuit, and 22-year-old Muhammad Shahzad is the latest example. The batting all-rounder smashed a 49-ball century on September 24, breaking Misbah-ul-Haq's long-standing record for the fastest hundred by a Pakistan batter in first-class cricket history.

Shahzad achieved the milestone during Match No. 12 of the ongoing President's Trophy, representing Pakistan Television (PTV) against Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

Coming in to bat at No. 5 with PTV struggling at 34/3, Shahzad completely shifted the momentum with a fearless and aggressive innings. His attacking stroke play put the opposition under immense pressure and revived his team's innings.

The right-hander blasted 114 runs off just 62 balls, striking 12 fours and eight sixes at an astonishing strike rate of 183.87. He also played a crucial role in a 143-run partnership with Mohammad Taha, helping PTV recover from a precarious position and reach 285/7 in 58 overs at stumps on the opening day of the third round of the tournament.

The previous record for the fastest first-class century by a Pakistan player was held by Misbah-ul-Haq, who reached the three-figure mark against Australia during the second Test of the two-match series in Abu Dhabi in 2014.

Muhammad Shahzad was born on February 5, 2004, in Dera Ghazi Khan. Besides his explosive batting, he is also a useful right-arm medium-pace bowler. A product of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) age-group development program, Shahzad progressed through the Under-16 and Under-19 levels. He was also a member of the Rohail Nazir-led Pakistan side that competed in the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa.

Shahzad has also represented Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). During the 2025 season, he scored 24 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 133.33 and also picked up a wicket.

In 20 first-class matches, Shahzad has accumulated 1,393 runs at an average of 44.93, including five centuries (excluding the hundred scored on September 24) and six half-centuries. He has also claimed 27 wickets in the format.

In List A cricket, Shahzad has scored 563 runs in 22 matches at an average of 29.63 and a strike rate of 89.93, registering four half-centuries. In 26 T20 matches, he has amassed 434 runs at a strike rate of 124.71. With the ball, he has taken five wickets in List A cricket and four wickets in T20s.
