Muhammad Shahzad slams fastest first-class century by Pakistan batter

Muhammad Shahzad has etched his name in the history books, scoring the fastest first-class century by a Pakistani batter. He achieved the feat playing for Pakistan Television against Kingsmen Academy at the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad on the opening day of the third round of the President's Trophy.

Shahzad reached the landmark off just 49 balls, playing a breathtaking innings of 114 off 62 balls, smashing eight sixes and 12 fours. It was his sixth first-class century in 21 matches. He walked in to bat at number five with PTV reeling at 34/3 and immediately stitched a 143-run stand with Mohammad Taha (43).

Shahzad has come through the PCB's age-group programme, playing for Pakistan's Under-16 and Under-19 sides. He also played in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. He made his PSL debut for Islamabad United in the 2025 season, playing six matches.

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq previously held the record, having slammed a 56-ball hundred against Australia in the second Test at Abu Dhabi in 2014.

He had also levelled Viv Richards' record for the fastest Test century. However, it was broken two years later by Brendon McCullum, who hit a 54-ball century against Australia in Christchurch in the second Test of the series.
