Mumbai Indians have parted ways with Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson as they look to revamp their men's coaching setup. Malinga is the most notable name among those released from their roles.
The former Sri Lanka fast bowler has contributed immensely to the franchise, both as a player and as support staff. Malinga played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians' IPL title wins in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019, establishing himself as one of the franchise's most influential figures.
"Mumbai Indians extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lasith, Paras and Carl for their contributions to the team and the wider MI family," Mumbai Indians said in a statement. "Their commitment, the relationships they have built and the memories they have helped create will always be part of our journey."
Malinga is still the leading wicket-taker for Mumbai in T20 cricket. He claimed 195 wickets in 139 games, averaging 19.35 at an economy rate of 7.12. Jasprit Bumrah is second on the list, just five wickets less than the Sri Lankan legend. Malinga joined MI in October 2023 to strengthen the franchise ahead of IPL 2024.
Mhambrey and Hopkinson had joined ahead of the 2025 season. Notably, this was Mhambrey's second stint with Mumbai Indians. He was initially a part of them from 2010 to 2017.
