The alleged assault on Bangladesh cricketer Nayeem Hasan has taken a serious turn, with three police officers suspended as a three‑member investigation committee begins probing the incident that unfolded Friday night near Lalkhan Bazar in Chattogram.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the suspended officers include constable Mohammad Rasel Chowdhury, sub‑inspector Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, and another unnamed official responsible for overseeing police operations management. Suspension letters have already been handed out as authorities move swiftly to address the matter.

The commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), Shawkat Ali, personally visited Nayeem’s residence on Saturday, assuring the player and his family that a thorough and impartial investigation would be carried out against the officers involved. His visit was seen as a gesture of accountability and reassurance amid growing public concern.
Nayeem, who plays for Prime Bank Cricket Club, expressed gratitude to the supporters who rallied behind him during the ordeal. He revealed that when police officers attempted to forcibly take him to the Khulshi Police Station, nearly 100 to 120 locals and fans followed him, ensuring his safety and preventing any further mishap.
“When they put me into the CNG, I was very frightened. If the 100 to 120 supporters and local people had not been present, the incident could have turned out differently,” Nayeem was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
“I would especially like to thank them. When the police took me to Khulshi Police Station, I appealed to them. The supporters also came from Lalkhan Bazar to the police station with me that night.”
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for justice from fellow cricketers, fans, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). With the investigation now running at full tilt, all eyes remain on the committee’s findings and the disciplinary measures that follow.
