Nepal announce historic bilateral series against Bangladesh

Bangladesh are set to tour Nepal for a three-match T20I series in March 2027, marking the first-ever bilateral contest between the two countries. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has said that the series will be dedicated to the victims of the catastrophic floods that struck Nepal in August. All three matches will be played at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, with the first T20I on March 26 and the second and third on March 28 and 30.

Nepal was devastated by severe floods on August 26 following an avalanche in the north. The disaster claimed more than 1000 lives, while over 5000 people were reported missing.

“The BCB expressed its sympathy for the victims of the devastating floods and recognized the significance of dedicating the series to their memory,” the board said in a statement.

“The three matches will provide an opportunity for Bangladesh and Nepal to come together through cricket and convey a message of friendship and solidarity at a time of great loss. The BCB also assured the Nepal Cricket Association of its continued cooperation and support in the broader development of cricket in Nepal. The areas of collaboration will include exchange of men’s and women’s tours, High Performance programmes, training and technical support, and other development initiatives that can benefit players and cricket personnel of both countries.”

Nepal and Bangladesh have met twice in T20Is, with Bangladesh winning both encounters. Their first meeting came at the 2014 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Chattogram on March 18, where the hosts won by eight wickets. Their second clash took place at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Kingstown, where Nepal pushed Bangladesh hard but fell short by 21 runs.

Nepal’s men’s team continues to rise. They recently defeated United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the final of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup to secure a place in the Men’s Asia Cup 2027, with their only loss in the tournament coming against Hong Kong by 15 runs.
