India have suffered a major jolt ahead of their UK tour (Ireland and England) as their only seam-bowling allrounder, Nitish Kumar Reddy, has been ruled out. BCCI have named Suryansh Shedge as his replacement.

Shedge scored 147 runs in five games for India A in the recently concluded 50-over tri-series involving Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A as the other two teams. His runs came at an average of 36.75 and an impressive strike rate of 120.49, including a fifty. He also bowled 23 overs of right-arm medium pace, claiming two wickets at an economy rate of 6.04.

Reddy, 23, has suffered a left quadriceps injury and will now report to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He is understood to undergo a month-long rehab at the CoE to regain his fitness before India's two-match Test tour of Sri Lanka in August.

The emerging allrounder suffered the injury during India's first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamshala on June 13. He bowled four overs in the game and returned figures of 2/31, accounting for Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mohmmad Nabi, conceding 31 runs at an economy rate of 7.75.

He was rested for the second one-dayer in Lucknow and before his injury flared up in the third ODI in Chennai, where he bowled six overs, returning figures of none for 42.

Reddy's injury is a major headache for the team management, as they are also without the services of Hardik Pandya.

Though there is no official word on Hardik, he reportedly hurt his leg at the CoE during a conditioning session, and there is no timeline set for his return to action. Hardik's continued absence is a major worry for Team India as they prepare for the ODI World Cup in 2027.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has clearly specified that Hardik is currently being prioritised for the 50-over format as the Men in Blue build up towards the marquee tournament to be played in Africa.
