Bangladesh have made just one change to their squad for the series-deciding Test after suffering an eight-wicket defeat to West Indies in the opening match of the two-Test series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on October 31.
The hosts have drafted in 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan to replace Mominul Haque. Mominul sustained a head injury while attempting a catch at short leg to dismiss Joshua Bishop.
The incident occurred in the 78th over of West Indies' first innings when a leading edge ballooned into the air to Mominul's left. The Bangladesh batter produced an acrobatic effort to complete the catch but lost control of the ball as he landed face-first on the ground while still wearing his helmet.
He was immediately taken off the field, and Bangladesh physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan later confirmed that Mominul had shown signs of concussion. The team management subsequently named Jaker Ali Anik as his concussion substitute for the remainder of the match.
A player with concussion symptoms must spend seven days away from action before returning to the field of play as per the ICC's concussion protocol.
Amite, who replaces Mominul in the squad, has been in prolific form in Bangladesh's domestic circuit. The right-handed batter has amassed 395 runs at an average of 79.00 in the ongoing National Cricket League (NCL), Bangladesh's premier first-class tournament, including one century and one half-century. He recently registered his third double century in first-class cricket while representing Sylhet Division against Khulna Division in an NCL fixture in Cox's Bazar.
Bangladesh face a must-win situation heading into the second Test after falling 1-0 behind in the series. The decisive match gets underway in Khulna on November 5.
