Pakistan fined after conclusion of Women's Asia Cup 2026 campaign

Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in their Women's Asia Cup semifinal against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) on Friday (September 11).

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers minimum over-rate offences, players are docked five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time interval.

There was no need for any formal hearing as the Pakistan captain Fatima Sana pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the match referee G.S. Lakshmi after the time allowances were taken into account. Pakistan lost the semifinal by four wickets and were knocked out of the tournament.

It was an edge-of-your-seat thriller as Pakistan posted 131 on the board before Sri Lanka chased it down with four wickets and eight balls to spare.

Sana played a captain's knock, rescuing the team after they were four down for 52 in 9.5 overs. She bided her time and cut loose as soon as she got her eyes in. She used her feet to great advantage, dancing down the ground and negating the turn. The 24-year-old played an unbeaten knock of 47 off 36 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 130.55.

She also got Pakistan off to a splendid start with the ball in hand, removing Chamari Athapaththu and Sanjana Kavindi for scores of 5 and 0 inside the first two overs of Sri Lanka's innings. Sana bagged two more wickets, but her efforts went in vain as Pakistan failed to hold their nerve as the game went deep. Despite finishing on the losing side, Sana was adjudged the Player of the Match (POTM).
