India women fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. Renuka's last international appearance came during the T20 World Cup in England against Australia.
She was also a part of the squad for the historic Women’s Test against England at Lord’s in July, but didn’t make it to the playing XI. The right-arm seamer is still not at 100% and is building up the bowling volume required for the 50-over format at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, according to a media release.
The Women’s Selection Committee has named right-arm seamer Jintimani Kalita as Renuka’s replacement. She earned her maiden India call-up for the recently concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe in Raipur. She has travelled with the team to Baroda for the ODI leg of the series.
ODI series begins on October 23
Kalita has played 13 matches in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) across two seasons for Mumbai Indians (MI) and has taken one wicket. She played in the white-ball series for India A against Australia A at home in September and also travelled to England with the ‘A’ side in June-July earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe begins on Friday, October 23 at BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara.
