South Africa fast bowler Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia due to a left hamstring injury. Baartman suffered the injury during the domestic first-class season opener while playing for Dolphins.

He bowled just five overs in the match and did not even bat in the second innings. Baartman will undergo further medical assessment, following which his rehabilitation time will be determined. In his place, Duan Jansen has been added to the squad, who’s currently with South Africa's second-string side in Namibia.

Jansen was the highest wicket-taker in the recent T20I tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe with 11 scalps from four matches and helped South Africa win the title. The left-arm speedster has also claimed five wickets in the first two ODIs of the ongoing series.

Kagiso Rabada also ruled out

Meanwhile, Baartman is the second South African player to be ruled out of the series following an injury, as earlier, Kagiso Rabada also missed out on selection due to a hamstring concern.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has not provided an estimated timeline for Rabada’s recovery and will take a call on his availability for the three-match Test series against the same opposition, beginning on October 9. Baartman could also be considered for the Test squad with South Africa eyeing to reinforce their bowling resources.

South Africa's updated squad for the ODI series: Temba Bavuma (c), Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Bjorn Fortuin, Duan Jansen, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs.
