Sam Konstas named in CA XI squad for warm-up fixture against Bangladesh

Cricket Australia has named a 14-member CA XI to face Bangladesh in a three-day tour game in Darwin, which will serve as a warm-up opportunity for the visitors ahead of the two-match Test series starting on August 13.

Sam Konstas has been included in the CA XI squad, a strong indication that he remains part of the selection committee's plans for Test cricket. The right-handed batter has already played five Tests in his fledgling career with 163 runs, averaging 16.30 and a fifty.

The 20-year-old burst onto the scene with a 65-ball 60 against India in the Boxing Day Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His knock grabbed plenty of limelight as it was filled with several audacious shots against India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

However, his form then tapered off and saw him bag two ducks during Australia's tour of West Indies last year. He was subsequently dropped from the side and has been trying earnestly to make his way back.

The 20-year-old was the fifth leading run-scorer in the Sheffield Shield 2025/26 season. He aggregated 660 runs, averaging 33.00, including a century and two fifties while representing New South Wales.

The 23-year-old Victorian batter Campbell Kellaway is also an exciting talent coming through the ranks, and the selectors have also named him in the CA XI. Kellaway, a middle-order batter, accumulated 509 runs in the previous Sheffield Shield season, averaging 26.78, laced with a hundred and two fifties.

Another interesting name in the CA XI squad is that of Western Australia's Corey Rocchiccioli. The right-arm off-break bowler had snared 38 wickets in the previous Sheffield Shield season in just nine games, averaging 28.18, including two five-wicket hauls.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has also named a 12-man development squad who will head to Chennai to participate in the annual MRF Academy Program. Leg-spinner Lloyd Pope, the 2024 U19 World Cup-winning captain Hugh Weibgen, Steve Hogan, Joel Davies, and Jason Sangha are some of the players who have been announced in the travelling group.
