Cricket West Indies (CWI) has 'reintegrated' Shimron Hetmyer into the 50-overs setup as the southpaw has been named in the 15-player squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka at home.

Hetmyer, 29, has been rewarded for his remarkable outing at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 in the Indian subcontinent. The 2016 U19 World Cup-winning captain finished the ICC event as the leading run-scorer for the Men in Maroon. Hetmyer aggregated 248 runs in seven innings at an impressive average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 186.46, including two half-centuries. He played an integral role in propelling West Indies to the Super Eight stage.

"Following his impressive performances during the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Shimron Hetmyer has been reintegrated into the West Indies ODI setup as part of CWI’s strategic build-up towards the 50-Over World Cup in October and November next year. He will join the squad ahead of the third and final encounter," a CWI press release read.

Pacer Alazarri Joseph, who missed a bulk of international action with a back injury he sustained in July of last year, also makes his return to the ODI squad. Slow left-arm orthodox bowler Gudakesh Motie has also made his comeback after missing the away series in New Zealand in November last year.

Alick Athanaze, Johann Layne, Khary Pierre and Romario Shepherd, who were a part of the squad in the previous ODI series against New Zealand, have been left out.

The three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka will be played at the Sabina Park in Jamaica from June 3-8.

The series against Sri Lanka is extremely vital for West Indies as they aim to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Notably, the top eight teams, along with the hosts, will automatically qualify for the tournament.
