Sri Lanka announce squads for men and women cricket events at Asian Games

Sri Lanka have named their squads for the men’s and women’s cricket competitions at the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi‑Nagoya. Right‑arm pacer Nuwan Thushara returns to the setup for the first time since resolving his dispute with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Thushara filed a lawsuit against SLC after the board denied him a no‑objection certificate (NOC) to participate in IPL 2026, citing his failure to clear the fitness test. He later withdrew the case in the Colombo District Court and was subsequently included among the 46 men’s players awarded central contracts.

Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Kamil Mishara and several other senior players have not been selected, with SLC placing its trust in emerging talent. Wanuja Sahan and Vijaykanth Viyaskanth are among the promising youngsters set to feature at the Asian Games.

Meanwhile, the women’s squad appears far more settled, featuring several familiar names. Chamari Athapaththu, Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Vishmi Gunaratne will anchor the batting lineup, while Mithali Ayodhya, Kaveesha Dilhari and Chamudi Prabodha will lead the bowling group.
