Oman and Zimbabwe clashed in Match 8 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo on Monday, February 9. Sikandar Raza won the toss and put Oman in to bat.
The Omanis had a poor start to their innings as the top order was rocked by the pace duo of Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava. The team from the Gulf found itself at 17/4 at the end of the four overs and needed a stabilising partnership to rebuild the innings. However, it did not transpire immediately as Wasim Ali (3 off 8) was the next man to go soon, bowled by Raza. Notably, it turned out to be the only wicket to fall to spin in the match.

Sufyan Mehmood and wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla finally formed a partnership as the pair took Oman past the 50-run mark. Zimbabwe made a comeback soon though as Ngarava struck for his second wicket to send back Shukla for 28(21). The batting team lost a couple of wickets soon after as right-armer Brad Evans joined the party.
The Omani innings was going nowhere and stuttered to cross the 100-run mark. Evans ended it for 103 off the penultimate ball with Brian Bennett taking a screamer in the deep midwicket region. For Zimbabwe, Muzarabani (3/16), Ngarava (3/17), and Evans (3/18) were the best bowlers.
The Chevrons' openers - Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani - got the team off to a flying start, scoring 30 runs in the first three overs. However, Mehmood struck twice in the fourth over to send back Marumani (21 off 11) and new man Dion Myers (0 off 2) to bring Oman back into the game marginally, if not more.
Wicketkeeper-batter Brendon Taylor joined Bennett and the duo played sensibly. The right-handers avoided taking undue risks, but did not relent playing with intent. The partnership (68* off 56) grew steadily as Zimbabwe moved closer to a big win. It looked like the pair would take the team home on their own, but Taylor (31 off 30) suffered cramps which compelled the team management to retire him out.
Captain Raza and Bennett scored the remaining six runs needed quickly as Zimbabwe completed an emphatic win by eight wickets and 39 balls remaining. For Oman, Mehmood (2/12) was the sole wicket-taker. For his dismantling of the Oman top-order, Muzarabani was adjudged as the Player of the Match.
