Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new full-time president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), following the elections held in Dhaka on Sunday, June 7. Iqbal was also the incumbent BCB president in an ad-hoc committee formed by the government in April.

Tamim was the only candidate, and he will serve a four-year term in total, having already completed two months as the ad-hoc committee's head. The day-long election, conducted through both physical voting and e-ballots, took place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, the headquarters of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

A total of 23 directors were elected across three categories, while two government-appointed representatives were announced later, completing the 25-member board.

The Bangladesh government called for BCB elections in April after dissolving the previous panel of administrators led by former captain Aminul Islam after a five-member investigation committee found several irregularities in the conduct of the board election in October, 2025.

Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal has become the youngest president of the board. He retired from international cricket in early 2025. He has represented the country in 243 ODIs and is also Bangladesh's leading run scorer of the format, with 8357 runs from 240 innings at an average of 36.65 with 14 hundreds and 56 fifties.

He also represented the country in 78 T20Is and 70 Test matches, along with captaining Bangladesh to 21 wins in 38 matches across formats, including the 2-1 ODI series against South Africa in 2022.

Fahim Sinha appointed vice president

A total of 88 votes were cast to elect 23 directors in two out of the three categories, according to the election commission. The first category includes all the divisions and districts of the country, the second is the Dhaka clubs that participate in the league system, while the third consists of former cricketers, captains, education boards and others.

Tamim was one of twelve directors elected from the second category. The newly formed 25-member board subsequently held an internal election to appoint the president and two vice presidents. Tamim was elected president, while Fahim Sinha secured one of the two vice-president positions. The second vice-president is yet to be elected.

The result marked a significant turnaround from the BCB elections in October 2025, when Aminul retained the presidency amid controversy. Tamim, who was leading one of the competing panels, withdrew from the contest before voting, alleging "bias and malpractice" on Aminul's part.
