Left-handed batter Tanzid Hasan and wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan have earned maiden call-ups to Bangladesh's red-ball side for the first Test of the two-match series against Pakistan in May.

While Tanzid has stitched several impressive performances in Bangladesh's white-ball sides, Amite has done consistently well in the domestic circuit and has yet to get a taste of international cricket.

Amite, 24, has played 49 first-class games and accumulated 3650 runs at an average of 49.32, including 11 centuries and 17 half-centuries. On the other hand, Tanzid has registered one century and six fifties in the 50-over format and 11 half-centuries in T20Is. He averages 40.72 in first-class cricket and has aggregated 1792 runs in 25 games, including five centuries and six fifties.

Chief selector Habibul Bashar revealed that the selectors had been keeping an eye on Tanzid for a very long time as a Test prospect, as the left-hander "has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability."

"Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket," Bashar was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. "He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format.

Bashar also heaped praise on Amite, saying his temperament is tailor-made for the rigours of Test cricket and can serve the country for longer periods of time in the longest format.

"Amite has earned his call-up as he has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket. This format demands patience and discipline, and he has shown those qualities over a sustained period. Both these players have time on their side and can serve Bangladesh for a very long period," added Bashar.

The selectors have recalled seamers Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed alongside off-spinner Nayeem Hasan into the squad. They have left out Jaker Ali, Hasan Murad and pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed.
