Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock engage in heated exchange during second ODI

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock got involved in a heated conversation during the second ODI against Australia on Sunday, September 27, at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

The incident took place in the 48^th over of the second innings when the two had an argument while opting for a DRS on an LBW appeal against Xavier Bartlett. The Australia fast bowler was batting on 50 (27) when Lizaad Williams struck his pads with a pinpoint yorker.

However, after being given not out on the field, Bavuma was adamant about going for DRS while de Kock continued to suggest something from behind the stumps, which didn’t go down well with the South African captain, who asked him to stop shouting.

The duo then engaged in a profanity-laden exchange that was caught by the stump mic. Later, teammates David Miller and Marco Jansen were seen calming them down.

Meanwhile, the DRS turned out to be successful as the ball-tracking showed the ball crashing into leg stump, bringing an end to a heroic knock by Bartlett, who departed for 50 (28), having hit two fours and five sixes.

Australia were eventually bundled out for 333 in 49.5 overs, chasing a massive target of 366 as they once again failed to capitalise on a good start. Captain Mitchell Marsh (84 off 53) and Travis Head (84 off 76) had added 130 runs for the first wicket off 102 balls.

However, the visitors continued to lose wickets at regular intervals after a massive opening stand, with only Bartlett scoring a half-century after the openers departed.

Earlier in the day, Temba Bavuma led from the front, playing a marvellous innings of 103 (116) with the help of ten fours and two sixes. He had the support of David Miller at the crease, who scored a breathtaking 142 (93), clobbering 12 fours and nine sixes. 

The duo shared a 156-run stand for the fourth wicket off 132 balls as South Africa posted a humongous score of 365/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Meanwhile, following their 32-run win, South Africa took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the third and final ODI scheduled to be played on Wednesday, September 30, at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
