The first-ever Hundred auction was held in London on Wednesday, March 11. New Zealand veteran Sophie Devine (Welsh Fire) and Australian wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney (Trent Rockets) secured the highest bids, picked for GBP 210,000 each, followed by England all-rounder Dani Gibson, who was picked for GBP 190,000 by Sunrisers Leeds.

Gibson was slotted in the first set and saw a bidding war between the Sunrisers and Welsh Fire. She fell just short of the GBP 200,000 mark but was momentarily the most expensive signing in The Hundred women’s history before Mooney and Devine’s bids overtook her.

South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk was the fourth-most expensive pick, going to London Spirit for GBP 170,000, while Chloe Tyron, Tazmin Brits, Sune Luus and Shabnim Ismail found no takers.

Amongst Indians, only Richa Ghosh (Manchester Super Giants) and Deepti Sharma (Sunrisers Leeds) secured a deal, picked at their base prices. Additionally, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues were signed before the auction.

No Pakistan player – Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana, with a base price of GBP 15,000 each – was picked at the auction. Sadia is currently the No. 1-ranked T20 bowler, while Pakistan skipper Fatima is ranked sixth amongst T20I all-rounders.

All-rounder Tilly Corteen-Coleman was the most expensive uncapped English player, signed by Southern Brave for £105,000.

Overall, six players bagged over GBP 140,000 each. To put the bids into perspective, the highest-paid players in the last edition earned GBP 65,000.
