UAE's Adeeb Usmani, Muhammad Jawadullah reprimanded by ICC for code of conduct breach

United Arab Emirates players Adeeb Usmani and Muhammad Jawadullah have been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match against Scotland in Dundee.

Adeeb breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match”. On the other hand, Jawadullah breached Article 2.3, which relates to the use of an audible obscenity during an International Match.”

In the 39th over of Scotland’s innings, after a run-out appeal was turned down, Adeeb showed dissent by loudly and aggressively appealing again. Meanwhile, Jawadullah ran towards the fielder, shouting at him and using an audible obscenity in frustration after expecting a quicker throw.

Both players admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Graham McCrea, leaving no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Gazi Sohel and Iain McDonald, and reserve umpire David McLean levelled the charge.

Four demerit points to convert into suspension points

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points. Notably, when a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned

Two suspension points lead to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.
