A 4-1 Ashes win at home has helped Australia consolidate their top spot on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table. Australia registered a five-wicket win over England in the New Year's Test at the SCG by chasing down 160 on the fifth day to retain the urn with a 4-1 scoreline.

As a result, the Kangaroos have now won seven out of their eight games in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle. Their solitary loss came in the Boxing Day Test as they now have aggregated 84 points and a total PCT (Points Percentage) of 87.50.

Their 2025-27 WTC campaign began with a 3-0 whitewash of West Indies in the Caribbean, and they have now humbled their Ashes rivals at home.

The chastening defeat has dented England's chances of making the WTC finals. The Three Lions are languishing in the seventh spot with three wins, six defeats, and a drawn fixture. They have accumulated 38 points and have a PCT of 31.67. Their WTC campaign began with a 2-2 result at home against India and have now suffered a painful blow down under.

New Zealand are second on the ladder with a PCT of 77.78, whereas the defending champions, South Africa, are third with a total PCT of 75.00 after blanking India 2-0 recently. Team India are sixth with four wins and as many losses in eight games this cycle.
