England completed a dominant win by an innings and 103 runs in the first Test against Pakistan, wrapping up the match on Day 3 at Headingley, Leeds. Trailing by a massive margin of 238 runs in the second innings, Pakistan were bundled out for 135 as Ollie Robinson (3/29), Jofra Archer (3/50) and Josh Tongue (3/43) scalped three wickets each.

Earlier, England resumed their first innings on 366/8 with Jofra Archer (0*) and Jamie Smith (16*) at the crease. The duo extended their overnight stand to 28 as Archer also made a crucial contribution of 23* (25). England managed to add 45 runs for the last two wickets, extending their lead past 200. Khurram Shahzad (3/133) accounted for both wickets to fall as England got all out for 409.

While it was a first-ball wicket that rocked Pakistan in the first innings, the score remained the same in the second innings, but it took ten more deliveries for England to make the first strike as Imam-ul-Haq gloved Archer to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith behind the stumps.

After a golden duck in the first innings, Azan Awais (9 off 14) had another failure, falling into the leg-slip trap set by captain Joe Root and Archer. Shan Masood (29 off 56) and Abdullah Shafique (15 off 29) helped Pakistan cross the 50-run mark, with a 38-run stand for the third wicket.

However, the duo failed to convert their starts, falling prey to Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue respectively as Pakistan lost half their side on 73. Mohammad Rizwan (41 off 39) walked in at number seven and tried to delay the inevitable until getting his stumps shattered by Gus Atkinson, while trying to go for a big hit on the leg side.

Pakistan were eventually bundled out for 135, handing England a massive win. Ollie Robinson was adjudged Player of the Match for registering his career-best match figures of 8/80. Meanwhile, following their win, Pakistan slipped to last spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025-27 with 16 points from seven matches, while England maintained seventh spot with 50 points from 14 matches.
