Updated WTC points table after England's series sealing victory over Pakistan at Lord's

Pakistan were again given a reality check as their hopes of pulling off a historic run chase at Lord’s were dashed by a relentless England pace attack on Day 4 of the second Test. Set a massive target of 389 runs to level the series, Pakistan put up their best batting performance so far, scoring 194 runs in the second innings but still ended up losing the match by as many runs.

Saud Shakeel was the only player willing to show some fight for his team, scoring 97 (122) with the help of 13 fours and two sixes. He missed out on his fifth Test century, getting holed out to deep backward square leg against Josh Tongue. Apart from him, there was nothing to show on the Pakistani batting card, with Shan Masood being the second-highest scorer with 26.

For England, Ollie Robinson was the pick of the bowlers, scalping a four-wicket haul (4/24), while Josh Tongue (3/46) also scalped a three-wicket haul. Jofra Archer also managed to get two wickets in the day, including the Pakistan captain Babar Azam (6 off 8), who had no answer to his sharp bouncer as he only managed to awkwardly play it to the slip cordon.

Robinson was deservedly adjudged Player of the Match for scalping eight wickets in the match, registering figures of 8/35.

Meanwhile, following their win, England have gained one place in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table for the 2025-27 cycle. They now occupy the sixth spot with six wins from 15 matches, having a points percentage of 34.44%. On the other hand, Pakistan continue to reel at the bottom with two wins from eight matches, having a points percentage of 16.67%.

With only one match remaining in the series, Pakistan will have to play out of their skins to avoid a whitewash in the third Test, beginning on September 9 in Birmingham.
