Updated WTC points table after Pakistan's clinical win over West Indies in 2nd Test

Pakistan beat West Indies by eight wickets on Day 4 of the second Test at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Wednesday, August 5. Set a target of 75 runs to draw the series, Pakistan chased down the score in 23.3 overs to finally end their eight-match losing streak away from home.

Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed their second innings on 103/6, leading by 60 runs as Kemar Roach joined Justin Greaves at the crease, following captain Roston Chase’s dismissal late on Day 3. However, Ali Usman continued his carnage from Day 3, as he shattered Roach’s stumps in the third over of the day, sending him back into the pavilion for a six-ball duck.

Shamar Joseph walked in at number nine and tried adding some quick runs to the total through the use of slog sweeps against Usman. At the other end, Mohammad Ali removed Justin Greaves for 3 (32), while Usman managed to get his fourth scalp, removing Shamar Joseph. With Brandon King unavailable to bat, West Indies’ innings ended on 117 in 46.1 overs as Ali Usman (4/39) and Sajid Khan (4/32) scalped four wickets each.

Despite being set a target of 75 runs, Pakistan openers Azan Awais and Imam ul Haq batted cautiously to get rid of the new-ball threat. However, Imam ended up poking at a wideish delivery from Justin Greaves and was caught at first slip. His dismissal brought first-innings centurion Abdullah Shafique to the crease, and he stitched a 27-run stand for the second wicket to bring Pakistan closer to the target.

West Indies got another success as Shamar Joseph cleaned up Azan Awais (18 off 49), leaving Pakistan on 42/2. In the second session, with the visitors just 18 runs adrift of victory, captain Babar Azam (24* off 30) took it upon himself to get his team over the line. He whacked back-to-back sixes against Jomel Warrican to seal Pakistan’s victory in style.

Meanwhile, following their win, Pakistan and West Indies exchanged positions at the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table for the 2025-27 cycle. West Indies slipped to ninth spot with just two wins from 12 matches, while Pakistan rose to eighth position, with their second win from six matches.
