Updated WTC Points Table after Pakistan's heartbreaking loss to West Indies in Trinidad

Pakistan suffered a heartbreaking 90-run defeat at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series, going 1-0 down against West Indies. The loss has pushed Pakistan down to the ninth spot on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table.

Day four began with West Indies 155 ahead and had three wickets in hand. They needed to remove Shamar Joseph early, but pacer Mohammad Ali kicked off proceedings on a note of indiscipline, conceding runs in byes as wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan looked hapless behind the stumps and also dropped a catch.

Joseph capitalised and struck a few lusty blows, denting the tourists' spirits. He scored a 27-ball 38 with a four and four sixes before Windies folded for 181, setting a challenging target of 211 for Pakistan to chase down.

Pakistan's batting order, as has been the case during chases in the recent past, crumbled under pressure. Jayden Seales tore through the batting line-up, returning figures of 5/20 and received a fair amount of support from Kemar Roach (2/27) and the Player of the Match (POTM) Justin Greaves (2/12). 

Barring skipper Babar Azam, no other Pakistan frontline batter looked comfortable against the rampaging Windies attack. Therefore, the visitors were never in the run chase. The wicket had variable bounce and offered seam movement, but a 49-run stand between the captain and No. 11 Mohammad Abbas showcased it wasn't as bad as Pakistan's scorecard read.

Abbas scored 23 off 33 with the help of four boundaries and looked assured at the crease. Meanwhile, Babar struck nine boundaries in his unbeaten 58. He kept running out of partners while holding an end together.

This is Pakistan's fourth consecutive loss in the ongoing WTC cycle. Their only win came against South Africa in October last year when they beat them by 93 runs. Since then, they have lost once to the Proteas at home, twice to Bangladesh away, and their latest defeat has come in the Caribbean.

This is West Indies' second win of the cycle. Their previous one also came at home, in the previous series against Sri Lanka. They have lost seven and drawn two fixtures.

The second Test will get underway on August 2 at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.
