South Africa scripted a remarkable comeback in the second Test of the ongoing three-match series against Australia to register a clinical win by an innings and 31 runs at St George's Park in Gqeberha. The Proteas have now levelled the series 1-1, and the decider will be played at Newlands in Cape Town from October 27 onwards.

After declaring their innings at 425 for the loss of nine wickets, the Proteas bundled Australia out for just 99 in the first innings before enforcing the follow-on. The hosts then conjured a remarkable bowling effort to bowl the tourists out for 295 on the final day to get over the line. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, who scored 179, was adjudged the Player of the Match (POTM).

The win, however, has not made any significant changes to the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 points table. Australia remain at the top with a points percentage (PCT) of 75.00%. Meanwhile, South Africa are third with a PCT of 66.67% after four wins and two losses.

The winners of the inaugural edition of the WTC, New Zealand, are second on the standings. The Blackcaps have registered four wins, a loss and a draw in six games of the ongoing cycle. Their PCT stands at 72.22%.
