India’s youngest batting talent, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, witnessed his first‑ever match at Wimbledon as he attended the Gentlemen’s Singles final between Italy's Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev of Germany on July 12.

Sooryavanshi was ecstatic to be part of the spectacle and even correctly predicted Sinner as the eventual winner. After dropping the first set, Sinner roared back to claim the next three, successfully defending his title with a 6‑7, 7‑6, 6‑3, 6‑4 victory over the second seed. In doing so, he became only the 10th player in the Open era to defend the Gentlemen’s Singles Championship.

Rod Laver (1968-69), John Newcombe (1970-71), Bjorn Borg (1976-77-78-79-80), Boris Becker (1985-86), Pete Sampras (1993-94-95, 1997-98-99-2000), Roger Federer (2003-04-05-06-07), Novak Djokovic (2014-15, 2018-19-21-22), and Carlos Alcaraz (2021-22) are the ones to do it before Sinner.

"I'm here to watch the final match and see what the experience is like, watching live and observing how players perform in the finals. It should be a great experience," Vaibhav told JioStar.

"I've really liked Sinner, the way he has dominated throughout the tournament. Hopefully, he wins today."

Sooryavanshi revealed that he has been following tennis for the past four to five years and holds great admiration for Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

"I used to watch Nadal and Djokovic a lot. I really like Djokovic, but those were the two players I followed the most," he added.

While enjoying his Wimbledon debut, Sooryavanshi continues to navigate the challenges of international cricket. After warming the bench during the Ireland series, he was handed his debut in the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, replacing Sanju Samson. He scored 14 off 10 balls, striking two sixes before being stumped off Will Jacks’ bowling.

Scores of 13 and 15 followed in his next two outings, but he was left out of the playing XI for the fifth and final T20I at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
