The second day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy witnessed high-octane action again across the country. In Jaipur, Mumbai locked horns with Uttarakhand at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Mumbai's previous match at the same venue two days earlier had witnessed the attendance of nearly 20,000 fans to watch Rohit Sharma bat. The former India captain had delighted the fans with his range of shots on his way to a spectacular 155 runs off 94 balls.
When Uttarakhand won the toss today and elected to field first Rohit's Jaipur fans were in for a possible early treat. When his opening partner Angkrish Raghuvanshi provided him the strike for the last ball of the first over fans' excitement rose. However, in a sad turn of events for them, Rohit was dismissed off the first ball. The anti-climax was produced by the 25-year-old right-armer Devendra Singh Bora who would, inarguably, cherish the scalp throughout his lifetime.

Raghuvanshi (11 off 20) did not last long either as he was bowled by Jagmohan Nagarkoti in the sixth over. That brought the Khan brothers, Musheer and Sarfaraz, to the middle and the duo rebuilt Mumbai's innings. They both crossed the half-century mark during their 107-run partnership, but failed to score big as both were dismissed for 55 runs each with Mumbai at 133/4 after 21.1 overs.
Siddhesh Lad and Hardik Tamore combined to continue with the momentum provided by the Khan brothers. They formed a 53-run partnership before Uttarakhand struck again in the form of Lad (21 off 32). Tamore, along with Shardul Thakur and Shams Mulani, formed two crucial partnerships of 44 and 95 runs respectively to allow Mumbai to post 331/7 after their 50 overs. Tamore was the star of the batting show, scoring 93* off 82. For Uttarakhand, Bora was the highest wicket-taker finishing with figures of 10-0-74-3.
Chasing 332 against a formidable Mumbai side was not going to be easy. Uttarakhand began the innings with caution but suffered an early blow in the form of Kamal Singh (1 off 10) with just four runs on the board in the third over. A 51-run partnership followed between skipper Kunal Chandela (32 off 37) and Yuvraj Chaudhary before the former succumbed to Onkar Tarmale.

Another fifty-plus partnership ensued as Chaudhary and Aanjaneya Suryavanshi tried to not lose their way. The run rate was climbing up, but the duo ensured the wickets column had as lowly a figure as possible. Finally, the pressure dictated and Uttarakhand lost their third wicket in the form of Suryavanshi (20 off 33). Soon after, new man at the crease Aarav Mahajan (8 off 11) too succumbed leaving his team at 128/4 after 26.4 overs.
Chaudhary kept going from the other end as he formed a quickfire 62-run partnership with Saurabh Rawat off 47 balls. But, the former's dismissal on a run-a-ball 96 dented the team's hopes to some extent. Uttarakhand were now 190/5 after 34.3 overs.
Jagadeesha Suchith played an important knock of 51 runs off 43 balls but in the end it was not enough to get his team over the line. The team from the north finished at 280/9, losing the match by 51 runs. Shardul Thakur was the best bowler for Mumbai with figures of 7-1-28-2.
