WI vs PAK: Justin Greaves limits Pakistan's progress on opening day of 2nd Test

West Indies finished day one of the second Test at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain with a slight advantage as they posted 239 for the loss of five wickets on a wicket which showed early signs of assistance for the spinners. Justin Greaves was the stand-out batter for Windies as he is unbeaten on 64 alongside his captain Roston Chase (36*).

The day began with West Indies calling it correctly at the toss and electing to bat first, choosing to go in with an unchanged XI. On the contrary, Pakistan made four changes, and the one that sent shockwaves through the fans was the decision to bench Mohammad Abbas. Abbas was Pakistan's most impactful pacer in the series opener in Tarouba, claiming eight wickets. However, Pakistan replaced him with young quick Ubaid Shah.

Shan Masood, who suffered a fracture to his finger, made way for Abdullah Shafique. Khurram Shahzad and Aamer Jamal were replaced by Awais Zafar and Sajid Khan.

The hosts got off to a decent start with Tagenarine Chanderpaul (15) and Brandon King (46) adding 49 for the opening wicket. Chanderpaul threw it away by timing an aerial pull straight down the throat of deep fine leg, where Sajid Khan snaffled it with ease. It was a rank long hop and could have been pulled with disdain anywhere on the leg side, but to Chanderpaul's dismay, he found the only fielder stationed in the fine leg region.

King became the first Test victim of Pakistan's freshly unleashed slow left-arm orthodox bowler Ali Usman as he played all around a delivery which turned sharply away and struck him on his pads. Sajid Khan got lucky with the caught behind of Kavem Hodge as the ball kissed the West Indian's glove before going into Mohammad Rizwan's gloves down leg side.

Southpaw Amir Jangoo was batting well but got a tickle to an innocuous delivery sliding down leg side, and Rizwan made no mistake yet again to help Ubaid claim his maiden Test scalp.

Shai Hope and Greaves added 53 runs for the fifth wicket before the former dragged an inside edge onto his stumps off Ali. But just when it looked the day was going the tourists' way, Greaves added a 66-run stand with his captain and brought the hosts back into the mix. Greaves and Chase now have the responsibility to make it a big partnership as the wicket looks bound to turn more in the coming days.
