The Indian women’s cricket team didn’t accept the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday, September 13, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final to clinch their record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
However, after their triumph, they boycotted the post-match presentation and didn’t accept their awards. While no official information was provided on the matter, it’s believed that India’s stance was due to the presence of Mohsin Naqvi on the podium.
Earlier, the Indian men’s cricket team also denied accepting the trophy from Naqvi after winning the men’s Asia Cup 2025 at the same venue. India have maintained distance from Pakistani players and their officials ever since political relations between the two countries were strained in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in April 2025. The tensions also escalated on the border as the two countries engaged in skirmishes.
In the first meeting between the two teams after the attacks, India came up with a no-handshake policy with Pakistani players, a stance they’ve maintained across all age and gender teams. After not accepting the trophy following their win in the Men's Asia Cup 2025 final, Team India celebrated without it on the podium, taking a dig at the unusual events.

The incident added to the myriad of controversies witnessed during the tournament between the two cricketing nations. India still haven't been handed over the men's trophy, as it has been kept in the Asian Cricket Council office in Dubai.
The women's team trophy is also likely to face the same fate, with the two boards unwilling to sort out their differences. As a result, the Women's Asia Cup controversy adds to the long list of contentious moments witnessed between the two cricketing nations in recent times.
