Zimbabwe announce squad for T20I tri-series, Richard Ngarava ruled out due to injury

Zimbabwe unveiled their 15-member squad for the T20I tri-series against hosts Namibia and South Africa on Monday, August 24. Wrist spinner Graeme Cremer returns to the squad after recovering from the left-arm injury that ruled him out of the home series against Bangladesh and India.

Cremer had gone seven years without playing for Zimbabwe before returning to the national side for the T20 World Cup 2026. However, a left-arm injury ruled him out of selection following the tournament.

Apart from him, fast bowler Kundai Matigimu has also been selected in the squad. However, he won’t have the company of Richard Ngarava and Tanaka Chivanga in the pace department, who were unavailable for selection due to injuries.

Ngarava is continuing his recovery from a lower-back injury, while Chivanga has undergone surgery after suffering an Achilles tendon injury during training. Both players will remain under the supervision of Zimbabwe Cricket’s medical team as they continue their rehabilitation.

Zimbabwe to begin campaign vs South Africa

Brendan Taylor also hasn’t been picked after not getting any chances during Zimbabwe’s recent T20I series against Bangladesh and India. His last appearance in the format came against Oman at the T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will begin their campaign against South Africa on 29 August before taking on Namibia on 31 August. The three teams will play each other twice, with the top two sides qualifying for the final on 6 September.
